Pape Clément’s red wine offers a deep, dark color, heralding a rich and structured wine.
The olfactory bouquet combines ripe black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry), spicy touches, cedar notes, and sometimes a hint of smoke or graphite depending on the vintage.
On the palate, the texture is ample, the tannins precise, with a nice density but not heaviness, as the freshness and mineral tension typical of the terroir perfectly balance the power.

The finish is long and expressive, with black fruits, sweet spices, and a beautiful, elegant persistence.

A wine for aging—enjoyment guaranteed now after decanting, but should be kept for a few years for optimal development.

Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest and most prestigious Grands Crus Classés in the Graves region, whose vineyard was planted in the 13th century by Bertrand de Goth, later Pope Clement V.
After various ownerships, it was acquired in the 1980s by Bernard Magrez, who initiated a rigorous modernization process while respecting the historical roots of the site.

The estate covers approximately 53 hectares of red wine and 7 hectares of white wine, in the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
The red grape varieties are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with small proportions of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. For the whites, the blend includes Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and touches of Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle. The terroir is made up of well-drained Pyrenean clayey gravel, sand, and clay, resting on an ancient subsoil—these soils give the wines finesse, structure, freshness, and a typical mineral character.

Viticulture combines tradition and innovation: manual harvesting, rigorous sorting (by plot, by grape and berry sorting), aging in French barrels and foudres, sometimes in mixed containers for the whites, to capture both the historical character and modern personality of the great wines.
