The “Lindes de Remelluri,” or “Borders of Remelluri,” is a blend of two terroirs with diverse characteristics. On the one hand, those of the wines of Labastida, in Rioja Alta, and on the other, those of San Vicente in Rioja Alavesa. Until 2009, the producers of these two entities brought their best grapes to Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri. Lindes is the result of Remelluri’s desire to reward the fabulous work of these winemakers by separating their production from the estate’s other vintages, to blend them into this new vintage, which, since its creation, has received nothing but praise from the greatest tasters. This wine is a blend of several grape varieties typical of the region: Tempranillo, Grenache, and Graciano.
The aromatic profile is refined and expressive, with notes of ripe black fruit, juicy cherry, sweet spices, and dried flowers. The texture is fluid and elegant, supported by fine tannins and a fresh, balanced structure. The overall finish is both precise and indulgent, with good length and a slightly smoky finish. A signature Rioja, vibrant and sincere, that masterfully combines tradition and modernity.
Of Basque origin, but considering himself very close to French culture, Telmo Rodriguez studied winemaking at the Bordeaux Institute of Oenology, before completing internships with Cos d’Estournel, Jean Louis Chave, and Trevallon. He also worked on the vinification of the family wines at Remelluri, in Rioja. Then, in 1990, with an investment of just a few thousand euros, he launched his own winery. He purchased grapes to produce his first wines. His first plots of land wouldn’t arrive until 1997, in Rioja. A paradox for someone who was eager to explore new regions.
One of Telmo Rodriguez’s main principles is respect for the Spanish tradition of cultivating vines using goblet training, as this method of training the vines protects them from the intense heat of the Iberian vineyards. He is fiercely opposed to the trend of trellising vineyards and only buys vines that respect his ideals. Telmo also works biodynamically, but, showing great common sense, he admits that he does it only out of respect for the land and that the label “organic viticulture” is of no importance to him. The important thing is that the result is a balanced and flavorful wine.
